In June 2020, the FLC acquired the 4.75-acre Sycamore Springs Preserves in Oceanside. The preserve was donated to the FLC by Beazer homes as part of their mitigation requirements for the Sycamore Springs development and is not open to the public. While the acreage may sound small, the preserve supports riparian woodland, coastal sage scrub, and native grassland habitats. The preserve is home to numerous species, including least Bell’s vireo, yellow warbler, and orange-throated whiptail. FLC is excited to take ownership and management of the property, and it is a great reminder that every piece of land we can protect is beneficial to our overall goal of protecting open space.
